Intern at Care Corp’s LifeHouse
Our non-profit provides students with great opportunities to make a difference in their community. Care Corps’ LifeHouse offers a range of internship opportunities and experiences for a variety of academic disciplines.
Student interns work under practicing professionals who provide supervision and guidance. The internship position is designed to give students realistic job experience while they learn professional skills they can carry into their careers. Their experience will help the student bridge the gap between academic theory and professional practice while gaining firsthand experience of the daily challenges and rewards of social service non-profit. Potential interns may apply online or be referred by an academic professor. The potential student submits an application, resume, and is interviewed to determine whether he or she is a good fit for Care Corps’ LifeHouse. Upon acceptance, the student will complete all necessary forms required by Care Corps’ LifeHouse and his or her academic institution.
Each student intern will be assigned a supervisor to oversee daily tasks and give continuous feedback on performance. The student intern will receive a mid-term evaluation to provide he or she with an opportunity to see what he or she has done well and what can be improved upon as well as a final student intern evaluation for Care Corps’ LifeHouse records. Additionally, the student intern will complete an evaluation of Care Corps’ LifeHouse which will be used to analyze and improve the program.
The internship is the responsibility of the student, the intern’s supervisor, and the student’s academic advisor. The internship schedule will be coordinated between the student intern, academic advisor, and the intern’s supervisor.
Potential student interns should be considering a profession related to some aspect of Care Corps’ LifeHouse’s mission and objectives. Generally, the student intern should be advanced in his or her educational or vocational programs.
Potential interns will complete the application process, including providing a resume, for the position. The potential intern will be contacted by the CCLH to schedule an interview. If selected, the potential intern will complete all required documents and submit to a background check.
Care Corps’ LifeHouse may offer paid internships based on eligibility. Non-paid interns are not eligible for Care Corps’ LifeHouse employee benefits. Internships may be discontinued at-will but advanced notice is appreciated.
All student internship opportunities with Care Corps’ LifeHouse are for academic credit. Credit hours received will vary depending on the requirements of the student intern’s academic program. Care Corps’ LifeHouse will work with the student intern’s academic program to ensure all requirements are met.
Student’s responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Student interns receive a personal tour of Care Corps’ LifeHouse facilities to gain an understanding of our organization and services offered. The student will be introduced to staff members he or she will be working with during the internship.
Case Management serves the needs of individuals and families participating in a CCLH program. Each program supports a caseload of individuals or families with their transition to self-sufficiency. This can include case management sessions to address any barriers, life skills training, workforce development, and outside referrals.
Shelter desk, typically a paid internship, manages the daily operations at the shelter during the evenings and week-ends.
The Development intern assists with special projects and general administrative duties. Additional intern duties may include thanking donors through thoughtful letters, assisting with the coordination of special events, and planning donation drives.
Operations interns assist the Property Manager in maintaining our facilities.
The life skills intern assist clients with a variety of services that may include basic computer skills, helping clients write emails, resume writing, employment applications, etc. Interns would develop life skills classes they would like to teach the clients.
The intern would meet with clients one-on-one to offer spiritual care; this would be similar to pastoral counseling or spiritual direction. “Soul Friending” is being present for those who reside at CCLH to engage in deep listening, and to possibly pray with them.
